HoloGenomics
for ecology, evolution and conservation

The Earth HoloGenome Initiative aims to promote, facilitate, coordinate and standardise hologenomic research on animal-microbiota systems worldwide

# 1

Generate paired animal genomic and microbial metagenomic data of wild organisms worldwide

# 2

Create an interdisciplinary network of field biologists, (meta)genomicists, microbiologists and data scientists

# 3

Standardise and optimise sampling, preservation and laboratory methods to enable reproducible and comparable research based on open resources

# 4

Create a transparent biobank and database to enhance data generation and analysis efficiency

OF SAMPLE COLLECTION AND PROCESSING

Ethical principles

COLLABORATION

EHI is built on the strong convinction that collaboration, rather than competition, is the way to creating groundbreaking science

OPENNESS

We firmly believe that all procedures, results and knowledge must be openly accessible for everyone

TRANSPARENCY

We defend that all management and research procedures, as well as project-development status and sample/data availability must be fully transparent

HOW CAN I PARTICIPATE?

With a new project

If you are planning to start a new project in which you plan to get biological samples from animals, you should consider developing it within the framework of the EHI. We will assess the best strategy to generate paired genomic and microbial metagenomic data following standardised pipelines, and use the data to address your own research questions and beyond.

Contributing to an existing project

If you are sampling animals for research or training purposes, and you can get biological samples that may contribute to existing projects, we encourage you to contact us and request sampling kits to make the most of your field work.

Would you like to participate?

Use the contact form to let us know about your questions or thoughts.

Use the sign up form to request your participation in the EHI.

If you already are a participant, use the information submission form to send us standardised information.

Learn more about the different options to participate in the Earth HoloGenome Initiative and do not hesitate to contact us if you are willing to contribute.
